CCP’s 2006 Stellar Fundraising Auction is a resounding success

With the generous support of 57 Australian and New Zealand artists, CCP raised over $50,000 at a fundraising auction held at CCP on Saturday 2 September.

CCP acknowledges the artists–who in many respects subsidise the arts sector– and thanks them and their representatives for generous support through donation of their work.

The Stellar Auction was an entertaining afternoon, with attendance of about 250 on the day and 60 each day for the previews. Auctioneer, Roger McIlroy, Directror Neville Keating McIlroy Ltd, donated his services, which were both entertaining and skilful.

Funds raised are critical to CCP, not simply as icing on CCP’s cake but will be distributed over CCP’s 2006 and 2007 operations.

Now in its 20th year the CCP is one of Australia’s premier venues for the exhibition of contemporary photo-based arts, providing a context for the enjoyment, education, understanding and appraisal of contemporary practice. Established in 1986 by the photographic community as a not for profit exhibition and resource centre, in 2005 CCP relocated to architect designed premises. This move was made possible by funds raised from the 2003 Stellar Fundraising Auction.

In 2005, the CCP:

  • raised the funds to renovate and relocate to these new premises
  • extended our opening hours
  • self-generated over 50% of its income through memberships, education and touring programs and fundraising activities
  • exhibited over 413 Australian and international artists in a total of 25 exhibitions across five galleries
  • conducted 12 weekend workshops and held 4 lectures, 5 seminars and an education program for youth at risk
  • published a major anthology of critical writing, 7 catalogues, 3 issues of Flash newsletter
  • launched CCP Books and Prints, generating support for unrepresented artists, presenting a wide range of new and second-hand books on photography to enhance the visitor experience at CCP
  • enjoyed the support of 550 financial members, and was grateful for the contribution of over 4,000 volunteer hours
