This is an opportunity to join Jesse Marlow, one of Australia's leading street photographers, on an intensive two-day course on making photos in public places. The workshop will span two sessions. Session one will cover the history and practice of street photography and session two will be a personal folio review of participants work.


Jesse Marlow is a Melbourne-based artist. Over the past 17 years he has worked for a range of local and international magazines, newspapers and commercial clients. Marlow has produced a number of photo books, including Don't Just Tell Them, Show Them (2014); Wounded (2005); and Centre Bounce: Football from Australia's Heart (2003). In addition, he was one of 45 street photographers from around the world profiled in the Thames & Hudson book Street Photography Now (2010). Marlow won the Monash Gallery of Art Bowness Prize in 2012 and was the inaugural winner of both the International Street Photography Prize in 2011 and the Australian Hasselblad X-Pan Masters competition in 2002. Marlow is a member of the international street photographers collective and his works are held in public and private collections across Australia and abroad. Marlow is represented by SEA, Jacky Winter Group and M.33 in Melbourne.

Session 1 The Evolution of Street Photography and Techniques

From shooting in the street, through composition and technique, to editing, Jesse Marlow will present an in-depth insight into his own practice and style. Alongside this personal insight into the genre, he will provide an overview of the evolution of street photography through historical and contemporary examples from around the world. The session will focus on enhancing photographic techniques, building confidence and overcoming inhibitions when shooting in public places and will also include a discussion on street photography etiquette and the legal rights of a street photographer.

Session 2 Private Folio Review

Participants will be given a two-week period to shoot a small project to present, along with older work, for a one-on-one 30 minute portfolio review with Jesse Marlow.

Participants must have a working knowledge of their cameras.

Saturday 26 April: This private folio review will be by appointment. CCP will email you a designated appointment time within two working days of your booking.
