Leica/CCP Documentary Photography Award

The biennial Leica/CCP Documentary Photography Award presents a survey of the best contemporary Australian documentary photography in series format. The Leica/CCP Documentary Photography Award has provided a regular and unique platform for the exhibition and debate surrounding documentary photography in Australia since 1997.

2005 Leica/CCP Documentary Photography Award
The 2005 Leica/CCP Documentary Photography Award was exhibited at the Centre for Contemporary Photography in mid 2005 and is currently touring nationally until mid 2008.

Sixth Leica/CCP Documentary Photography Award
The Sixth Leica/CCP Documentary Photography Award will be exhibited in Gallery Two and Three at the Centre for Contemporary Photography from 7 September until 27 October 2007, and will tour nationally from 2008 - 2010.

sixth Leica/CCP Documentary Photography Award

Sydney-based photojournalist Stephen Dupont won the Sixth Leica/CCP Documentary Photography Award for his black and white portrait series “Axe Me Biggie” or Mr Take My Picture. Dupont has been awarded a new Leica M8 camera valued at over $10 000.

Stephen Dupont’s series was selected from over 250 entries. Other finalists in the Sixth Leica/CCP Documentary Photography Award are: Michael Amendolia, James Brickwood, Cara Bowerman, Anthony Dawton, Sean Hobbs, Jesse Marlow, Natalie McComas, Matthew Newton, Laki Sideris, Steven Siewert, Doug Spowart+Victoria Cooper, Emma Thomson, Tamara Voninski, Tom Williams and Lisa Wiltse.

Judges were Head of Photography Studio, School of Art VCA, The University of Melbourne, Christopher Köller, Writer and Assistant Curator/Exhibitions at Monash University Museum of Art, Kyla McFarlane and Curator Contemporary Art, National Gallery of Victoria, Kelly Gellatly.

Melbourne-based artist Laki Sideris received a honourable mention for his series Beijing Bicycle.

2005 Leica/CCP Documentary Photography Award

Finalists for the fifth award were selected for exhibition at the new Centre for Contemporary Photography in mid 2005 with national tour continuing until 2008. The judges in were photographer Mathias Heng, Leica representative David Lloyd and CCP Director Naomi Cass.
